ARCHITECTURE THAT BOOSTS IMMUNITY AND INCREASES LONGEVITY

A work of architecture that can boost immunity and increase longevity certainly deserves to appear on the covers of leading 21st Century medical journals. The Arakawa + Gins team make precisely these claims for the Reversible Destiny Lofts — Mitaka, their recently completed residential loft building in an upscale Tokyo neighborhood, and it therefore should come as no surprise that an image of it adorns the October 10, 2004 cover of the Japanese edition of JAMA (The Journal of the American Medical Association). Although the editorial decision to go with this cover-image can thus be judged to have been arrived at through a logical and fairly standard sequence of reasoning, it can equally well be viewed as the adopting of a radical stance and the performing of an epoch-making revolutionary act, one signaling important actions and events to come.
